About the Fellowship

In today’s rapidly evolving media landscape, staying up to date with global practices in communications is crucial. The rise of digital media and the increasing importance of social platforms have transformed journalism.

According to the World Economic Forum, over 60% of the global population now has internet access, with social media users surpassing 4.7 billion as of 2023. This shift emphasizes the need for journalists who are adept at navigating digital tools and platforms.

Offers a fully funded scholarship, covering training, mentorship, the Young Reporters Fellowship in Sudan is designed to engage and empower young Sudanese journalists, press and media professionals with the skills and opportunities to develop as aspiring journalists and communicators. The programme is implemented by the Private Office of His Excellency Saeed ZAKI of Sudan and administered by the International Youth Federation.  

This Fellowship aims to nurture a new generation of reporters who can effectively cover a wide range of topics, from local news updates to development issues to cultural and global affairs and represent a unique opportunity to build a professional network and portfolio, enhancing career prospects in journalism and communications.


OBJECTIVES

  • Enhance Journalistic Skills: Provide young participants with hands-on training in journalism, including writing, reporting, interviewing, and multimedia storytelling.
  • Promote Media Literacy: Equip participants with the skills to critically analyze media content and understand the ethical implications of journalism.
  • Encourage Civic Engagement: Foster a sense of social responsibility and encourage young reporters to cover issues that impact their communities and the world.
  • Build Networks: Create opportunities for participants to connect with professional journalists, media organizations, and peers from around the globe.


TARGET AUDIENCE

The programme is aimed at young people aged 18-28 who have a passion for journalism and storytelling. Participants must be students, recent graduates, or young professionals from communications, journalism and public relations backgrounds.

PROGRAMME DURATION

The Young Reporters Programme will run for six months, with an intensive initial training period followed by ongoing practical experience and mentorship.

Each participant will have the opportunity to pair with an experienced communications professional who will provide guidance, feedback, and support throughout the programme.
