Wish to apply? Application Process Explained

We are delighted that you are considering joining our programme dedicated to nurturing the next generation of journalists in Sudan. Here, you will find all the information you need to complete your application successfully.

1. Initial Screening
1.1 Upon submission, all applications are logged into our system and assigned a unique identification number for tracking purposes.
1.2 Our administrative team conducts an initial screening to ensure that all required materials (personal information, resume, and personal statement) are included and that the applicant meets the basic eligibility criteria.

2. Video Quiz
2.1 Shortlisted candidates are asked to submit a short video answering specific questions designed to showcase their passion, skills, and creativity in journalism.
2.2 Video submissions are evaluated by the review panel using a set of predefined criteria, including clarity of communication, originality, and relevance to journalism.

3. Detailed Evaluation
3.1 Applications that pass the initial screening and the video quiz are assigned to a panel of reviewers, which includes experienced journalists, educators, and programme staff.
3.2 Each reviewer evaluates the applications based on predefined criteria, including academic background, professional experience, personal statement quality, letters of recommendation, and work samples.
3.3 Reviewers rate each application using a standardized scoring system, ensuring consistency and fairness in the evaluation process.

4. Shortlisting Candidates
4.1 The scores from all reviewers are compiled, and applications are ranked based on their total scores.
4.2 The review panel meets to discuss the highest-ranking candidates. During this meeting, reviewers have the opportunity to discuss their assessments, provide additional insights, and address any discrepancies in scores.
4.3 A final shortlist of candidates is created based on the panel’s discussion and consensus. These candidates are invited for interviews.

4. Interviews
4.1 Interview Scheduling: Shortlisted candidates are contacted to schedule interviews. Interviews will be conducted virtually.
4.2 Interview Panel: The interview panel typically includes members of the review panel as well as senior staff from the fellowship programme.
4.3 Interview Format: Interviews are structured to assess candidates' communication skills, critical thinking, passion for journalism, and alignment with the fellowship’s mission. Candidates are also given the opportunity to ask questions about the programme.

5. Final Selection
5.1 After all interviews are completed, the interview panel meets to evaluate each candidate's performance. Additional points are awarded based on interview performance.
5.2 The panel reaches a consensus on the final list of candidates to be accepted into the fellowship. This decision takes into account the overall scores from the application review and interview phases.
5.3 The final list of selected candidates is reviewed and approved by the programme director.

6. Notification and Onboarding
6.1 Successful candidates are notified via email and provided with detailed information about the next steps, including orientation and programme start dates.
6.2 Official offer letters are sent to accepted candidates, outlining the terms and conditions of the fellowship.
6.3 Accepted fellows undergo an onboarding process, which includes orientation sessions, completion of necessary paperwork, and introduction to their mentors and the programme curriculum.

7. Feedback for Unsuccessful Candidates
7.1 Candidates who are not selected receive a rejection notification thanking them for their interest and encouraging them to apply again in the future.
7.2 Upon request, we provide constructive feedback to unsuccessful candidates to help them improve their applications for future opportunities.
