Young Reporters Fellowship in Sudan

To ensure the best experience for participants, the following eligibility criteria, conditions of participation, and expectations, YRF Sudan fellows will be well-prepared to make the most of the opportunities provided by the Young Reporters Fellowship and to contribute meaningfully to the field of journalism.

Eligibility Criteria
To ensure a diverse and talented cohort, the Young Reporters Fellowship in Sudan has established the following eligibility criteria for prospective applicants:
  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be between 18 and 28 years old at the time of application.
  • Educational Background: Applicants must be students, recent graduates, or young professionals from communications, journalism and public relations backgrounds.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is required, as the programme will be conducted in both English and Arabic.
  • Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of Sudan or of Sudanese origin.
  • Passion for Journalism: Demonstrated interest in journalism, storytelling, and media is desired. This can be evidenced through previous work, academic projects, or personal initiatives.

Conditions of Participation
Participants selected for the Young Reporters Fellowship must agree to the following conditions:
  • Full Commitment: Fellows are expected to commit fully to the six-month programme, attending all training sessions, workshops, and events.
  • Active Participation: Engaging actively in all activities, including field assignments, collaborative projects, and mentorship meetings, is mandatory.
  • Compliance with Guidelines: Participants must adhere to the programme’s guidelines, policies, and ethical standards.
  • Completion of Assignments: All assignments, projects, and evaluations must be completed on time and to the best of the participant's ability.
  • Respect and Professionalism: Fellows are expected to maintain a high level of respect and professionalism in all interactions with peers, mentors, and programme staff.

Expectations from Participants
The Fellowship aims to foster a professional and collaborative learning environment. To achieve this, we have set clear expectations for all participants:
  • Commitment to Learning: Participants should demonstrate a strong commitment to learning and improving their journalistic skills. This includes being open to feedback and striving for continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Working effectively in teams and collaborating with peers on projects is crucial. Participants should be willing to share knowledge and support each other.
  • Ethical Conduct: Upholding journalistic ethics and integrity is fundamental. Fellows must conduct themselves with honesty, fairness, and accountability in all their reporting activities.
  • Proactivity: Taking initiative and being proactive in seeking out learning opportunities, story ideas, and resources will greatly enhance the fellowship experience.
  • Time Management: Efficiently managing time to balance the demands of the fellowship, including attending sessions, completing assignments, and engaging in fieldwork, is essential.
  • Networking and Engagement: Actively participating in networking events, workshops, and seminars to build professional connections and engage with the broader journalism community is encouraged.
  • Reflection and Growth: Regularly reflecting on personal and professional growth throughout the fellowship and setting goals for future development is expected.
