Young Reporters Fellowship (YRF Sudan)

Equipping the next generation of Sudanese young reporters with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to drive impactful storytelling that fosters peace, development, and community service.

For Immediate Release

London, 15 August 2024 – The Young Reporters Fellowship (YRF Sudan), an innovative programme implemented by the Private Office and administered by the International Youth Federation (IYF), is proud to announce its official launch. The fellowship aims to empower aspiring journalists in Sudan by providing them with comprehensive training, hands-on experience, and mentorship to excel in the field of journalism and promote truth, transparency, and social change within their communities.

The Young Reporters Fellowship is a fully funded scholarship designed to equip young reporters with the essential skills and knowledge needed to navigate the dynamic landscape of modern journalism. Through a rigorous curriculum covering multimedia storytelling, digital journalism, investigative reporting, and ethical journalism practices, fellows will gain the tools necessary to become impactful journalists and leaders in their communities.

This initiative builds on a decade of successes achieved through our flagship youth development programmes, such as YLDP. Eman Salama, Director of External Relations and International Cooperation at the Private Office, stated, "The Young Reporters Fellowship represents a significant step forward in our commitment to nurturing talented young journalists, and we are excited to see the positive impact this new initiative will have on Sudan's media landscape in the years to come."

YRF Sudan is committed to fostering a new generation of journalists who can address pressing social issues, hold power to account, and contribute to a more informed and engaged society. The programme will include training sessions led by experienced journalists and media professionals, practical assignments that offer real-world reporting experience, and ongoing mentorship to support the fellows' professional growth.

"We are thrilled to launch the Young Reporters Fellowship in Sudan," said Roaa ALI, Executive Director of the Young Reporters Fellowship. "This programme represents a significant step towards nurturing a vibrant and ethical journalistic community in Sudan. We look forward to working with talented young reporters and dedicated media professionals to make this vision a reality."

While the dates for applications will be announced soon, we invite interested media experts to join us as guest lecturers or mentors. Your expertise and guidance will be invaluable in shaping the careers of these young journalists and ensuring they are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of the industry.

By leveraging the strong foundation and lessons learned, the Young Reporters Fellowship aims to further enhance the capacity of young journalists in Sudan, and continue the legacy of fostering leadership, promoting ethical journalism, and supporting the development of a vibrant and informed media landscape locally and regionally.
